Are You Looking to Form a Company? by William Hauselberg
Starting a new business can be an overwhelming and daunting task for anybody, and is not a decision that should be taken lightly. The fact that it is so overwhelming, however, doesn't mean it can't be done. After all, around 600,000 new businesses are started in the Unites States each year, and the entrepreneurial spirit is as American as apple pie. All you have to do is have the right tools in place, and be willing to put in the hours to make it happen.
Importance of Establishing Your Brand
What are you going to call your company? Name availability is a serious issue facing new companies today, especially considering the importance of being found on the internet. If you choose a name but someone else already registered that name, you may be unable to use it, or even a variation of that name. A simple search engine query can direct you to multiple locations for you to purchase a URL for your business. If you choose a common name for your business, finding a domain name will most likely be a challenge. Sometimes domains can be bought from other owners, but often they will overcharge you for it, especially if they know that you've already named your business without setting up an online domain.. So get creative. Brainstorm on names are connected to your product, but don't rule out the absurd - sometimes that's just what a company needs to establish itself.
Of course branding is more than just name availability for your domain. It involves how you present you, your product or service to the public. Are you serious and professional? Witty and sarcastic? Laid-back and aloof? These decisions at the onset are not only fun to make; they will play a role in how successful your company can be.
Company Formation and Structure
Do you want to form a limited partnership? Should you incorporate? There are many legal structures for you to consider, and it's crucial that you choose the right one for your company. There are a number of agencies at your disposal, but consider hiring a lawyer at this point, as getting your corporate structure together, articles of incorporation filed, etc. can be a complicated process. If you have partners, you'll need to consider whether or not to form a limited partnership, general partnership, or any number of other options. On the other hand, if you are a sole proprietor or non-profit, the decision has already been made for you.
So have fun with it. Starting a new company may be the most rewarding thing you do in this life.

Dearest Georg: Love, Literature, and Power in Dark Times: The Letters of Elias, Veza, and Georges Canetti, 1933-1948 $1.99 In 1934, Veza Taubner and Elias Canetti were married in Vienna. Elias describes the arrangement to his brother Georges as a “functional” marriage. Meanwhile, an intense intellectual love affair develops between Veza and Georges, a young doctor suffering fromtuberculosis. Four years later, Veza and Elias flee Nazi-ruled Vienna to London, where they lead an impoverished and extremely complicated marital life in exile. Spanning the major part of Elias’s struggle for literary recognition, from 1933, before the publication of his novel, Auto-da-Fé, to 1959, when he finished his monumental Crowds and Power, the Canetti letters provide an intimate look at these formative years through the prism of a veritable love triangle: the newly married Elias has a string of lovers; his wife, Veza, is hopelessly in love with an idealized image of his youngest brother, Georges; and Georges is drawn to good looking men as well as to his motherly sister-in-law. Independently and often secretly, the couple communicates with Georges, who lives in Paris: Veza tells of Elias’s amorous escapades and bouts of madness, Elias complains about Veza’s poor nerves and depression. Each of them worries about Georges’s health–if she could, Veza would kiss away the germs. Georges is an infrequent correspondent, but he diligently stores away the letters from his brother and sister-in-law. In 2003, long after his death, they were accidentally discovered in a Paris basement and comprise not only a moving and insightful document, but real literature. |

Kiss Your Elbow - A Kentucky Memoir $16.29 You'll want to spend every minute of your time with the O'Daniel Family, experiencing their simple adventures in a way that only this oldest daughter can weave them. Written with a sense of hope and an amazing capture of mid-twentieth century detail, you will enjoy the opportunity to:Revisit big department stores again, when Louisville's only place to shop was downtown Spend a delightful day at Fontaine Ferry, Louisville's famous amusement park Be part of the quarrels, love and joy - feeling the bonds of this close knit era, when dependence on family members and neighbors was essential.Experience farm life in the suburbs. Deanna's classmates jumped rope in subdivisions while the O'Daniels slopped hogs, killed chickens, and hoped they went to school without smelling like the animals they tended.Only a few can tell their story coherently like Deanna does with this touching memoir. First born in a large rural family, she relates her passage through childhood with charming and accurate descriptions of life in Kentuckiana. A chronicle of many customs and places that are fast slipping away from our collective memories, such as her description of the country store in Nelson County, Kentucky. A book you will tell others, "I'm so fond of this one."John Allen Boyd, Emerson Avery, That Latin TeacherDeanna's story is of dedicated parents and (eventually) 11 children. They migrated near Louisville, Kentucky when Deanna was five. Her stories about those formative years paint a portrait in glowing colors, depicting struggles and love that molds and endures. You will love Deanna and her story.Terry Cummins, Feed My SheepO'Daniel, a gifted writer who tightly weaves her life's journey through stories that makes growing up on a farm sound like sunshine. She shares the daily toil, angst and rivalry associated with a large family in a humorous, but realistic way - tugging at your heart for a piece of those bygone days.Corrider Jones, A Backward Gla |
