Tips for Preventing Dog Baldness
Most people don't think of associating hair loss with dogs, but it's very possible for our canine friends to start losing their hair. You will easily notice it if it happens since hair will be all around your home. It's very common for dogs to suffer some degree of hair loss at some point in their lives. It's important as an owner to recognize your dog has a problem and get him the treatment he needs as soon as possible.
If your dog loses some of his hair, it usually isn't much of a reason to be concerned. To be safe though, you may want to have your dog checked out by a vet. There are a number of different reasons your dog may be losing his hair. The vet will check for such things as:
Nervous stress or boredom, Canine atopy, Demodectic mange, Food allergies, and Ringworm.
Various conditions will need to be treated in different ways. If your dog has a food allergy, you could try switching brands or changing the diet entirely. Canine atopy is an allergy condition caused by genetics. Atopy needs to be treated with different shampoos and creams to get rid of the yeast and bacteria.
Topical ointments can be used to treat some causes of hair loss. If your pet has ringworm, pyotraumatic dermatitis (hot spots), or dermatitis caused by a flea intestation, topicals should do the trick. In severe cases of hot spots, though, which some dogs are prone to having, your dog will itch in one or two places so badly that he'll literally scratch and bite until the area is raw. In order to relieve the condition, your dog may need to receive an injection of anti-inflammatory medication.
Mange can also cause canine hair loss, and there are two different types. The first of these is demodectic mange which will cause a bacterial infection. Your vet can treat this type of manage with either Mitaban dips or ivermectin. The other type is sarcopic mange which is transmitted via parasites which burrow under your dog's skin to cause unbearable itching. Ivermectin by injection or pills can be used to treat this condition.
Dogs can also lose their hair because of excessive nervousness, a common problem in various terrier breeds. You will need to see your vet in order to treat this type of disorder. The vet would need to rule out more potentially serious causes of the hair loss. Doc No.azlcssaeh-sdgfhkl

100 Birds and how They Got Their Names $18.95 How did cranes come to symbolize matrimonial happiness? Why were magpies the only creatures that would not go inside Noah's Ark? Birds and bird imagery are integral parts of our language and culture. With her remarkable ability to dig up curious and captivating facts, Diana Wells hatches a treat for active birders and armchair enthusiasts alike. Meet the intrepid adventurers and naturalists who risked their lives to describe and name new birds. Learn the mythical stories of the gods and goddess associated with bird names. Explore the avian emblems used by our greatest writers--from Coleridge's albatross in "The Ancient Mariner" to Poe's raven.A sampling of the bird lore you'll find inside:Benjamin Franklin didn't want the bald eagle on our National Seal because of its "bad moral character," (it steals from other birds); he lobbied for the turkey instead.Chaffinches, whose Latin name means "unmarried," are called "bachelor birds" because they congregate in flocks of one gender.Since mockingbirds mimic speech, some Native American tribes fed mockingbird hearts to their children, believing it helped them learn language.A group of starlings is called a murmuration because they chatter so when they roost in the thousands.Organized alphabetically, each of these bird tales is accompanied by a two-color line drawing. Dip into 100 Birds and you'll never look at a sparrow, an ostrich, or a wren in quite the same way. |
