The Most Significant Sites In The City Of Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona is a unique city that combines two qualities that many vacationers look for: beautiful beaches and the European city feel. As the second largest city in Spain, Barcelona is a cosmopolitan city that focuses on modernity while still keeping undertones from it's 2000 year long history. The city is located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, meaning the beautiful blue water is never very far away. If Barcelona is a place that you are thinking about visiting, be sure to get your pasport first.

You will be surprised how much simpler and more convenient the passport application process is when you do your passport business online. Not only is it easier and more convenient, but you get your passport much quicker as well. Online expediting sites were created in order to help people get their passports fast, and with their variety of services - from getting your first passport to a passport replacement - all of your bases are covered.

Barcelona, like many big cities, is divided into many districts. Each of these districts is different from the last and has its own unique atmosphere. The Old Town District in Barcelona is referred to as Ciutat Vella. Within this district is Barri Gotic, the Gothic Quarter. The Gothic Quarter is a place that is perfect for walking; the delightful narrow streets and stunning Gothic architecture are things that really set the mood in Barcelona. Also located in Ciutat Vella is Las Ramblas. Las Ramblas is the most famous street in all of Barcelona, thanks to its living atmosphere. Street performers are always performing, and there are plenty of restaurants and places to shop. Eixample is another district in Barcelona. Famous for its art nouveau buildings, Eixample is a great representative of Barcelona as a whole. Gracia is a very cosmopolitan district, and Barceloneta is home to the stunning beaches and oceanfront cafes.

To the north of Barcelona is Tibidabo, a very tall mountain. This mountain offers the best view of Barcelona. On the mountaintop, there is an old church that is fun to explore. There is a legend that says Satan tried to tempt Jesus with the whole world. The mountain is accessible by either tram or on foot. Both methods give you a great view of the mountain. Montjuic is another mountain from which to view the city. You can take a cable car ride to the top of Montjuic, which is fun in itself. Montserrat is yet another mountain that features more history. On Montserrat is an ancient monastery. There are also a variety of hiking trails if you feel like exploring even more.

Many of Barcelona's attractions are within a few minutes' walk or ride of each other, and La Sagrada and Hospital de Sant Pau are an example of this. La Sagrada Familia is easily the most popular attraction within the city. It is a Roman Catholic Basilica that is actually unfinished; its architect died before the building could be completed. However, it has been declared that construction will finally be completed on the 100 year anniversary of the architect's death. Hospital de Sant Pau is still a functioning hospital, but it is an excellent example of the modernist movement of Barcelona.

Depending on what sorts of things you like to do, there is plenty to grab your interest in Barcelona. Be sure to visit some of the famous art museums, including the Dali museum, and eat some famous Spanish food as well. The nightlife has a reputation for being excellent, and the beaches are a great place to soak up the sun. Just don't forget your passport. Go online to get yours, where they can handle things like getting a United States passport replacement or renewal.
