The year 2009 was a momentous time for coin enthusiasts because the Lincoln penny was receiving a make-over for the celebration of the one hundredth anniversary of the Lincoln penny and the two hundredth anniversary of Lincoln’s birth. The obverse side (head) has no change at all, while the reverse side (tail) was totally changed.
There are four versions of this Lincoln penny that will display the four levels of being of Lincoln: his birth and childhood in Kentucky, his formative living in Indiana, his skilled time in Illinois, and finally his presidency in Washington.
The initial design was released last February 12, 2009 in Hodgenville, Kentucky where Lincoln was brought to being. The coin depicts of a small house where Lincoln was reared.
These pennies are circulated by the banking companies which receiving coins on an as-needed basis. It only means that there are banking companies who do not receive these coins because they are not required, as compared to other banking companies.
