Inside, you'll find tons of invaluable historical and cultural items. 30,000 authentic classical manuscripts by those such as Homer, Virgil, and Aristotle and also from the Bible are contained inside, along with works of art by artists such as Da Vinci and Raphael. You'll also find Da Vinci's Codex Atlanticus inside as well. This library has received very many notable visitors, including Mary Shelley, Lord Byron, and more. Because it's not a very advertised spot, tourists usually never end up finding the Ambrosiana Library, meaning you can visit without having to deal with mobs of curious tourists.
Da Vinci's famous painting, The Last Supper, is housed in the Santa Maria delle Grazie church. You will have to purchase your tickets well in advance, as they are almost always sold out. The lines to see this incredibly important building are usually always very long, but getting to see this painting in person makes it worth it.
For an afternoon of shopping, people-watching, and eating delicious Italian food, head to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a glass-topped 19th century palace that serves as a shopping mall.
