Flags of Europe - Republic of Estonia by Alexander Jones
Like other historic flags of Europe, including the national flag of Germany as well as that national flag displayed from aluminum and steel flag poles in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the national Estonia flag is also a so called "tricolor." Tricolor flags display three colors on the three horizontal or vertical bands, at times equally sized. The Estonian tricolor displays the colors white, black and blue on three horizontal stripes, each having the same height.
Interestingly, and like other historical flags of Europe, the tricolor of Estonia is said to have a number of different interpretations with regards to the three colors. Blue symbolizes "ancient freedom." Black represents "lost independence," and white symbolizes the hope or promise of a "better future."
