Bradman’s Invincibles

$22.72

Drawing on his extensive and detailed discussions with Sir Donald Bradman while writing THE DON, and interviews with the surviving Invincibles, Roland Perry gives the reader a ringside seat at all 34 matches over that gruelling summer of non-stop competition. Each of the Australian players is profiled in detail, and the thoughts and motivations of Bradman and of the other members of the team are revealed. The English players are also covered. Every Australian player shared, and was enthused by, the quiet yet fierce – and single-minded – determination of Bradman, the greatest cricketer ever. He led his team with the focus and precision of a general planning and executing a military campaign.

Love of Cricket has delved deep into the hearts of many

Playing with the bat and ball started way back that some of us may not even remember it. But what we get to see now is that every home has one or the other cricket fan, either of Sachin or Ponting or Harbhajan or Jayasuriya. Well, the list of cricket idols is endless because you may end up finding every cricketer being an idol of someone. In the earlier times, playing cricket was restricted to just some parts of England. But gradually, it unfurled its wings to other part of the world also. Since this game came into existence, its popularity chart has been constantly on the rise.

With each passing moment of time, it is just cricket that we get to see and listen all over. As far as I think, no other sport has gained so much acclaim as cricket. The reason for this, it has thrill, action and aggressive performances. When you are watching a match, then many of you may cheer out loudly when your favorite player scores a century or when your favorite bowler takes a wicket. It becomes all the more exciting when two teams give each other stiff competition and every fan is sitting with their fingers crossed.

Well, this game has become such a favorite that it is only cricket, cricket and more crickets that we get to see these days. An important thing to be noticed in this field is that many of the cricketing legends have left their mark in this field and have become a source of inspiration for their next generations. Some of the legends that have a special place in the cricket hall of fame are Sir Donald Bradman, Graham Gooch, Vivian Richards, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, and Courtney Walsh and so on. There is a long list of legends that seems to be endless because of the performances they gave in their golden time period.

Whenever a cricket tournament is about to start or is there on the cards, then you can see the kind of atmosphere that prevails. Somewhere fans starts making adjustments in their bust working schedule, while on the other side some try to gain access to such cricket websites that can provide them with all the nitty-gritty of cricket. The importance of information related to cricket can be understood only by an ardent cricket fan. In fact, some of the fans are such that they store the information that can be used as reference in the near future. It seems that information on cricket is everything for them.

Now, the world is moving fast and to catch with the pace of the world various cricketing sites have come up. Usually, people don't get time to sit easily and catch the action, either on television or in a stadium. And it is for this reason that World Wide Web has come up with these kinds of sites. Such sites provide all the necessary information related to the field of cricket and helps to save the time of fans that otherwise would have got wasted in collecting the information. Moreover, this option is advantageous for those working professionals who are quite busy with their daily work.

Whenever a tournament begins, people start chalking out plans so that they may not miss out the action. Now, the world cup 2007 is approaching in March. Every other country has come up with newer and creative ways to boost the morale of their player. After all, it is the biggest event of cricket world and the entire world has an eye on it. It is the 9th world cup this time and is being hosted by West Indies. The question of reputation seems to be at stake for West Indies and the team seems to have chalked out some winning strategies. The effect of such strategies and plans can be seen on their recent performances that shows their improvement. Moreover, many others have a question in their mind that will Australia take away the trophy for the third consecutive year or will be beaten by any other nation. So, every one of us has to wait for the action to take place in March.Ella Wilson is a cricket fanatic. Excerpt: Bodyline, also known as fast leg theory, was a cricketing tactic devised by the English cricket team for their 193233 Ashes tour of Australia, specifically to combat the extraordinary batting skill of Australia's Don Bradman. A Bodyline delivery was one where the cricket ball was pitched short so as to rise towards the body of the opposing batsman on the line of the leg stump, in the hope of creating legside deflections that could be caught by one of several fielders in the quadrant of the field behind square leg. This tactic was considered by many to be intimidatory and physically threatening. Although no serious injuries arose from any short-pitched deliveries while a leg theory field was set, the tactic still led to considerable ill feeling between the two teams, with the controversy eventually spilling into the diplomatic arena. Over the next two decades, several of the Laws of Cricket were changed to prevent this tactic being repeated. Law 42 includes: The bowling of fast short pitched balls is dangerous and unfair if the umpire at the bowler's end considers that by their repetition and taking into account their length, height and direction they are likely to inflict physical injury on the striker...' The occasional short-pitched ball aimed at the batsman (a bouncer) has never been illegal and is still in widespread use as a tactic. The Australian cricket team toured England in 1930. Australia won the five-Test series 21, with Don Bradman scoring an astounding 974 runs at a batting average of 139.14, an aggregate record that stands to this day. By the time of the next Ashes series of 193233, Bradman's average hovered around 100, approximately twice that of all other world-class batsmen. England feared that without resorting to drastic tac... More:
