Walk the full length of the tianguis which extends for several blocks outside of the town plaza to see the true Tianguis. This is where the locals plunk down their hard earned cash for fresh Tropical fruit and veggies produce: Tupperware, CDs and movies; colorful superbly padded bras; socks and underwear; twice around apparel; dyed infant chicks; puppies, and spare parts for absolutely whatever they covet.
Feeling hungry? return to the Main Plaza where you will discover an extravaganza of tasty snacks such as; toasty sugared churros; fresh baked bread, croissants, donuts, muffins, a large variety of Mexican flans and cakes; scrumptious dried tropical fruit including mangoes, papaya and pineapple; and a plethora roasted nuts including, cashews, pecans, almonds, pistachios and peanuts. If you only indulge in one pleasure check out everyone’s favorite - sweet roasted pecans. Simply to die for!
When you are tired of shopping, stop to treat yourself to a cappuccino or a hearty breakfast at Soley’s Restaurant and Café in the main plaza. Soley’s is the perfect spot destination to relax and ponder the comings and goings of the market.
2. Explore!
Hike the local trails which lead to Playa del Beso, Playa del Torres, Punta Raza, El Monteon and Lo de Marcos. The entrance to the trails is found at the south end of Playa Los Ayala, and will lead you on a trip through fertilesteamy rain forest where you will discover the implausible nature of the Riviera Nayarit and find a beach to call your own.
Rent a jeep or jump on a bicycle to explore the vast open farming and ranch land located at the base of the Sierra Vallejo Mountains and easily reached through the pueblo of La Penita by the south side of highway 200. The boat tour takes you by the spectacular beaches of Playa del Beso, Playa Frideritas, Los Ayala, Rincon de Guayabitos, La Penita and La Colonia, as well as the paradisiacal Isla Islote and Crab Island. If you take the tour during the months of November through March you will likely view several humpback whales, dolphins, and if you are fortunate sea turtles that are abundant in the Jaltemba Bay area.
